What Should Childcare Look Like in Scotland?

February 3, 2024, 11.00 – 15.00

Glasgow Grosvenor Hotel, Glasgow

Throughout our extensive conversations with women across Scotland, childcare remains a significant element of their lives. Scottish Government data suggests that 22.6% of women who are not economically active cite ‘looking after family and/or home’ as a key reason for their inactivity, and many women still see childcare commitments as a key barrier when re-entering the labour market. To understand what must change to create a better childcare landscape for everyone in Scotland, we are calling on women to give their views, asking the question: ‘What Should Childcare Look Like in Scotland?’.

During the event, you will hear from the below speakers who will provide their expertise on childcare and its impact on women.

Kaukab Stewart, MSP

Carmen Martinez, Scottish Women's Budget Group

Satwat Rehman, One Parent Families Scotland

This will be followed by a Q&A, where you will have the opportunity to ask any relevant questions. Following a free buffet lunch, attendees will also be asked to take part in roundtables, where solutions to Scotland’s childcare dilemma are welcomed.

We hope to create a welcoming and safe space for all attendees and are aware that topics covered during the day may cause distress. Therefore, these events are only open to women to attend and there will be listeners on hand throughout our event to provide support.
